Bio: Jo Teeuwisse

Jo Hedwig Teeuwisse was born in the Hague, a city in the Netherlands in 1972.

For as long as she can remember she has been fascinated by history, as a little girl she loved looking at old photos and imagining what life would have been like if she was born earlier.

Being brought up in an old house with lots of traces of the previous tenants made it very easy for her to try and envision the past.

Her love for history followed her trough school and to the Film Academy where she graduated with a short movie about a German soldier left behind in a Dutch town after the liberation.

But soon she realised that the film and television business was not for her, she simply couldn’t work on a project that didn’t involve history and she wanted to do more with her favourite subject, not less.

So she decided to start the Historical Consultancy 30-45, helping museums, schools but also film & tv companies making their historical productions more authentic and historically correct.

Her passion for the 1930s and 1940s went so far that she eventually adapted the vintage lifestyle.

In 2004 I found some negatives at a local flea market in Amsterdam, while trying to find out more about who made them and where they were made I started combining the negatives with modern photos made on the same spot, the Ghosts of History project was born.
